Flammin Hose is an archive. Every wildland fire crew has stories — the lost tool, the rookie who got razzed, the radio call nobody can believe actually happened, the person who becomes a legend three seasons after they've left. Most of those stories never get written down. They get told around a fire pit, at a bar after the season ends, in the buggy on the way back to camp. Then they fade.
This is where they get filed instead.
We collect and publish real stories from people who work or have worked in wildland fire — handcrews, engines, modules, helitack, saw teams, fuels crews, dispatch, and everyone else who's spent a season in the smoke. Every report is filed under a category, given a report number, and archived for good.
- We don't represent any fire agency, department, or organization.
- We don't speak on behalf of wildland firefighters as a whole.
- We don't verify every detail of every submission — these are stories, told the way people remember them, not incident reports.
- We don't take ourselves too seriously. Most of the time.
Flammin Hose is unofficial and unaffiliated with any wildland fire agency, department, or organization. Everything here is submitted by individuals sharing their own stories and experiences.
Serious work deserves a little questionable humor. The people who do this job carry a lot — long assignments, real risk, real loss. This isn't an attempt to make light of any of that. It's an attempt to hold onto the other half of the job too: the culture, the characters, the running jokes that only make sense if you were there. Both things are true at once. That's the whole point.
